In 1973, Travis wrote a romantic drama based on his song End of Summer and placed the property with Beaux Arts Productions.

At a Christmas party in Jack and Ellen Hibler's house at the top of Nichol's Canyon, Travis played the song and Gerard Alcan, then editing The Second Gun, was deeply moved by the music and wanted to use it in his film.  It exactly captured the tragic feeling of that time, the sense of irretrievable loss, Gerard said. Co-producer Ted Charach concurred and the rest is history. It was not what I had intended, says Travis, but I did it, without the lyrics and vocal, and played a few 'zingers,' which was all the film needed."



Following the success of "The Wilderness Family" (1974), and "Across the Great Divide" (1976), Gerard and Ellen brought Travis on board as the 1st Assistant Director on a never distributed Sci-Fi flick Travis now calls "MonkyBiz."
