I met my first California fan, Chuck Monda, in 1968, when he was a student at Mount SAC. In 1971, Chuck was drafted and sent to Vietnam, where this photo was taken. Chuck returned safely, is still one of my best friends, and I happily dedicate this 2014 recording of my Vietnam Era song, complete with helicopter gunships, jets, rockets, napalm, and a simulated newscast opening, accurately reflecting the period's sonic imagery, to Chuck and all who served in that conflict. Realizing the authentic-sounding newscast might do a War of the Worlds on todays listeners, I released the song on the Reconstructed Coffeehouse Blues album without it. This single includes that simulated newscast. To buy the download, click Chuck's photo, (left). |

"An award-winning audiobook by a California-based storyteller, this clever fairy tale is told entirely in narrative rhyme. The language is rich and the presentation is exhilarating . . ."
Rochelle O'Gorman, Boston Sunday Globe, August, 2000. "It sounds like a cross between "The Reluctant Dragon" and "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight," with a game of Dungeons and Dragons thrown into the mix. Pike's imaginative narration harkens to a medieval storyteller, which REALLY makes this piece work."
Bennet Pomerantz, audiobookcafe.com, June, 2000 "Pike's superb skill as a storyteller elevates the tale to a rare level. The rich language and Pike's voice variations paint vivid pictures in the listener's mind . . . an outstanding choice for school and public library collections."
